Color Me Rad to benefit Rosenbaum Family House

Race is on Saturday at Mylan Park

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Supporters of WVU Healthcare’s Rosenbaum Family House will have a totally radical time on Saturday, Sept. 7, when they participate in the Color Med Rad 5K Race at Mylan Park in Morgantown.

Participants begin wearing all-white clothing and get covered with color bombs of blue, green, pink, purple and yellow throughout the race. Each section of the run adds a new explosion of color to runners. The color is non-toxic, non-rash-inducing, Kroger-branded, colored cornstarch.

The family friendly, non-timed 5K race has more than 7,500 registered participants and many volunteers. This is the first time Color Me Rad has taken place in West Virginia.

Racers can pick up their race day packets, which include white T-shirts, Color Me Rad sunglasses, a RAD tattoo and other information about the race on Thursday, Sept. 5 and Friday, Sept. 6 at Mylan Park. Participants can continue to register throughout the week and on race day.

Many local sponsors are supporting the event and will be on site Saturday to help Morgantown go rad. They include, among others, WVU Healthcare, The Dominion Post, West Virginia Radio Corp., Coca Cola.

Part of the proceeds from this event will benefit Rosenbaum Family House, which is connected to Ruby Memorial Hospital. It is a home away from home for adult patients and their families. Guests must live at least 50 miles away from the hospital in order to stay at Rosenbaum Family House. Guests stay an average of 12.6 days while receiving care at WVU Healthcare.

Rosenbaum Family House always has a list of people waiting for rooms, and the average wait is three to five days. Family House offers weeknight meals to guests of the house and WVU Healthcare, as well as other amenities, such as laundry facilities. Cost of staying at Rosenbaum Family House is $15 a day, and no one is turned away due to an inability to pay. The House also offers a day room, which can be used for up to three hours at a time for showers and naps.
