Dr. Charles Moore named medical director of WVU Eye Institute

Charles Moore, M.D., has been named medical director of the WVU Medicine Eye Institute. He replaces Kenneth Mitchell, M.D., who served as medical director since June 2010.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Moore serve as medical director of the Eye Institute," said Ronald L. Gross, M.D., director of the WVU Eye Institute and chair of the WVU Department of Ophthalmology. "His expertise will provide our team the leadership it needs to meet the demands of a growing clinic as we improve and expand our service. His role as medical director is to provide clinical guidance, supervision and oversight to ensure that we are providing patient-centered care and that we exceed the expectations of our patients.

"We are grateful for Dr. Mitchell’s service and thank him for directing the clinic throughout the past several years," Dr. Gross added. "Under his leadership, the Eye Institute has consistently received high marks in patient satisfaction. Dr. Mitchell will continue to serve as associate professor in the Eye Institute as a part-time faculty member.”

Moore, an assistant professor, has been a member of the Department of Ophthalmology since 1996. He completed his medical degree at the WVU School of Medicine and did his residency training in the Department of Ophthalmology.
