Employee Health offering Hepatitis A vaccines
In response to the Hepatitis A outbreak in southern West Virginia and Kentucky, WVU Medicine will offer the Hepatitis A vaccine to employees at no cost. This is an optional vaccine for those who wish to receive it.
Hepatitis A is a communicable disease of the liver caused by the Hepatitis A virus (HAV). "Hepatitis" means inflammation of the liver. It is usually transmitted person to person through the fecal-oral route or consumption of contaminated food or water. Hepatitis A is a self-limited disease that does not result in chronic infection.
The vaccine will be offered through Employee Health beginning Monday, Sept. 24. Employees will need to complete a ReadySet survey prior to being vaccinated.
