Festival in a Basket volunteers prep gift baskets for Ramadan on Health Sciences Campus

Volunteers with the Festival in a Basket program were on the WVU Health Sciences Campus on Monday to prep gift baskets for Ramadan.

This volunteer program is comprised of local members of the Muslim community, including some West Virginia University graduates and students. The Festival in a Basket program is an independent volunteer initiative that has partnered with iServe and the West Virginia University Center for Community Engagement. Students at West Virginia University can become Festival in a Basket volunteers through iServe and earn community service hours.

Through this initiative, volunteers put together holiday gift baskets to give to families in Morgantown and the surrounding areas to celebrate occasions such as Ramadan, which begins on Saturday, April 2.

The baskets typically contain balloons, snacks, a card and other toys and treats for children. The baskets prepared by the group this year include a special Ramadan DIY Cookie Kit for families to ice and decorate together.
