Non-union employees: Participate in the 2018 Wellness Rewards Program by Sept. 30 to earn incentives

Employees and covered spouses currently enrolled in a WVU Medicine medical plan will have the opportunity to participate in the 2018 Wellness Rewards Program and save on their 2019 medical plan deductible.

The program, which kicked off Aug. 1 and continues through Sunday, Sept. 30, has been simplified. Employees will not be required to obtain blood tests or make an appointment for a physical; these steps have been required in the past.

Employees and covered spouses will each need to complete a wellness profile on the Highmark West Virginia website. Those who complete the wellness profile will save the following on their 2019 medical plan deductible:

  • Reduction of $500 for employee only coverage
  • Reduction of $1,000 for all other coverage levels

Employees can avoid a tobacco surcharge by indicating their tobacco status on the wellness profile. This is an important step, as employees who skip this step will automatically have the tobacco surcharge deducted from their paycheck beginning in January 2019.

Those who do not use tobacco will not be charged, if this step is completed. Those who use tobacco and complete this step can avoid the surcharge by enrolling in a tobacco cessation program sometime between Wednesday, Aug. 1, and Sunday, Sept. 30.

The tobacco surcharge is $25 per pay ($650 annual cost) if one person is a tobacco user and $50 per pay ($1,300 annual cost) if both the employee and spouse are tobacco users. Again, the tobacco surcharge can be avoided if the employee and/or spouse enroll in a tobacco cessation program.

For more information, including directions for completing the wellness profile, visit http://hr.wvumedicine.org or call the WVU Medicine HR Customer Service Team at 1-833-599-2100. Representatives are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The requirements for the Wellness Rewards Program are determined each year and may be revised at any time. Employees covered under a separate collective bargaining agreement are not eligible for this program and will receive information from their manager regarding their Wellness Rewards Program.
