Second surveyor from Joint Commission expected today

A building engineer from the Joint Commission completed part of a survey of WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals and Behavioral Health Programs for condition level deficiencies today (Aug. 28).

Another Joint Commission representative, a clinical surveyor, will be on site on Thursday, Aug. 30 to complete the last part of the survey.

The primary focus areas of the clinical surveyor will be on infection control practices, medication management practices and provision of care (clinical care). WVU Medicine officials anticipate the clinical surveyor will be on site for one day.

According to Aaron Kocsis, RN, regulatory coordinator with WVU Medicine’s Center for Quality Outcomes, the clinical surveyor may still be evaluating Life Safety Code practices. Employees are reminded to make sure hallways are clear of equipment and that fire extinguishers, fire pull stations and medical gas panels are not blocked. Also, staff should make sure there is an 18-inch clearance above stored items.

The visit was originally scheduled to occur between Aug. 13 and Aug. 27 to determine if Condition Level Deficiencies identified in the July survey had been corrected.

To help prepare for the clinical surveryor, staff can review this printable survey checklist.
