A message to the WVU Medicine family
It’s gratifying to see people pick up on what we’ve known for years about WVU Medicine.
Within the organization, we’re well aware that we offer world-class care and our services encompass a wide range of expertise. We’ve earned a reputation for providing top care and being the destination for people in the region with the most complex cases. Now our well-deserved reputation is picking up momentum nationally.
Our accomplishments were recognized on a national level recently with several mentions in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2018-19 Best Hospitals in the United States list, including our ranking as the top hospital in the state. You can review all of our accolades here.
As a small token of appreciation, we created commemorative T-shirts and we’re encouraging all staff to wear them tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 8). I think it’s a great way to show your pride in our institution and commitment to our patients.
Also, employees are encouraged to wear the shirt again at WVU's home men's basketball game against Texas the next day (Saturday, Feb. 9.) Tip-off for the game is 8 p.m., so you’ll have plenty of time to wash it!
Other eyes noticed our accomplishments as well. Noah Garrison, the 6-year-old son of Kim Garrison, a nurse in our Wound, Ostomy, and Fistula Care Department, wanted to know what the T-shirt was all about. He knows J.W. Ruby Memorial as “the brown hospital,” where his mom works.
After Kim explained that we were recognized as being the No. 1 hospital in the state, he gave his mother the best congratulations she could ask for: He said he was not only proud of her but proud of her “work friends.” He concluded by saying, “that’s awesome.”
I couldn’t agree more. To all my “work friends”: I think you are awesome, too!
