The Wright Stuff: We're leading the state and nation, thanks to you!

A message to the WVU Medicine family

Have you heard the great news?

Four WVU Medicine hospitals have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report, as part of its 2018-19 Best Hospitals in the United States. The rankings should be a source of great pride – Mountaineer pride – for all of us and are a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our providers and staff.

J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital received four national rankings:

  • 22nd in Urology
  • 28th in Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • 38th in Gynecology
  • 42nd in Pediatric Urology (announced last month)

J.W. Ruby Memorial also ranked as High Performing in five specialties:

  • Cancer
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Pulmonology

J.W. Ruby Memorial also ranked as the No. 1 hospital in West Virginia.

J.W. Ruby Memorial and three additional WVU Medicine hospitals – Camden Clark Medical Center, Jefferson Medical Center, and United Hospital Center (UHC) – were all ranked as High Performing in some Common Adult Procedure and Condition Ratings. Read the press release, located on www.wvumedicine.org, for all of the details.

More than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 26 specialties, procedures, and conditions were evaluated by U.S. News for the rankings.

Clearly, we are building momentum, and these rankings serve as an example of how our hub-and-spoke system – meaning that patients can get the same great care at our system hospitals as they can at our flagship hospital in Morgantown – is working. They are an endorsement of WVU Medicine as a system, as well as our providers and staff. And they’re an indication that our strategy and vision – taking advantage of opportunities for expansion, recruiting top physicians, and concentrating on the most-needed specialties – are going in the right direction.

The numbers don’t lie, and what they are saying is significant: We are among the best in the nation!
