WVU Cancer Institute physician leads changes for transplant and cellular therapy guidelines

Abraham Kanate, MD, Medical Director for the Osborn Hematopoietic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy Program and Associate Professor recently led the consensus guidelines from the American Society of Transplant and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) on indications for transplant and cellular therapy. The ASTCT is the U.S. national society for blood and marrow transplantation and cellular therapy. The 'white paper' constitutes the official, revised guidelines for indications for transplantation and cellular therapy.

The guidelines committee established a multi-stakeholder task force consisting of transplant experts, payer representatives and a patient advocate to provide guidance on indications for transplantation and cellular therapy to patients, transplant physicians, payers, and policymakers.

Dr. Kanate led the project and was the first author on the paper. It was published in BBMT (Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation) The title of the paper is: Indications for Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation and Immune Effector Cell Therapy: Guidelines from the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy
