WVU Healthcare Expo returns Sept. 16

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Get your health questions answered and participate in a variety of health screenings at the 2011 WVU Healthcare Expo, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Morgantown Mall.

This year’s Expo will feature 47 exhibitors from different departments and programs at WVU Healthcare, WVU Health Sciences and affiliated organizations.

“The WVU Healthcare Expo is one of the largest community health events in the area,” Stephanie Bock, director of community relations, said. “Hundreds of WVU health professionals -- including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and therapists -- will be at the mall promoting prevention and early detection.”

The Expo will be providing numerous free services, some of which normally cost hundreds of dollars, including:
•    blood pressure, bone density, glaucoma, vision and carotid artery screenings
•    individual health assessments focusing on heart burn, stroke risk and other conditions

WVU Healthcare experts will be available to answer questions on topics such as mental health, weight management, lung disease and adult preventive health.

“Each year at the event, we provide about 4,000 health screenings, mostly free, that can save and improve lives,” Bock added.  “This year we hope to provide even more.”

The Expo will also offer free chair massages, an opportunity to meet the Hearts of Gold service dogs, a chance to win a recumbent bike and much more.
