WVU Hospitals, Jackson General Hospital enter into management agreement

Jackson General Hospital in Ripley has entered into a management agreement with WVU Hospitals effective tomorrow (Sept. 1).

“With this agreement, we are establishing another point of access for patients in the Ohio Valley area that will complement our existing hospitals – Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, and Wetzel County Hospital, our affiliate in New Martinsville,” Albert L. Wright, Jr., president and CEO of the West Virginia University Health System, said. “This helps us to strengthen our system and ensure that West Virginians will not have to travel great distances to find the healthcare services they need.”

Jackson General Hospital, which was founded in 1964, is a 25-bed non-profit critical access hospital that employs more than 300 people. It provides inpatient, outpatient, primary, and emergency care; specialty services, including ophthalmology, orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, and interventional pain; infusion, physical, and respiratory therapies; and imaging and laboratory services.

In addition to the management agreement, Stephanie McCoy, MBA, RN, president and CEO of Jackson General Hospital, will be employed by WVU Hospitals effective tomorrow.

“Our mission is ‘Saving lives, changing lives with quality healthcare, one family at a time,’ and we believe that we will be able to better provide the highest quality healthcare to the families of Jackson County and the surrounding areas by entering into this relationship with WVU Hospitals,” McCoy said.

Rob Fisher, chairman of the Jackson General Hospital Board of Directors, said the management agreement creates a win-win situation for the hospital and its patients.

“The management agreement helps us to guarantee that the hospital will continue to serve the area as it has for 54 years, and it provides our patients with easy access to a level of care that is unrivaled in the state,” he said. “We appreciate the opportunity to work with WVU Hospitals and to better care for the citizens of Jackson County and the neighboring region.”
