WVU in the News: WVU Intersectional Health Fair brings light to diversity in health care

MORGANTOWN — Dianne Techwai, Vice President of Multicultural Association for Students in Healthcare, said discrimination in the medical system has caused minorities to become a statistic.

“Black women are more likely than white women to die during childbirth,” Techwai said. “Black people are less likely to be affected by the opioid epidemic, but most likely to die from the opioid epidemic.”

Techwai said these were just a few of the things that show discrimination has continued to plague the health care system.
