WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center hosts first NICU Reunion

MARTINSBURG, W.VA. – The WVU Medicine Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center recently hosted its first reunion for NICU graduates.

The NICU at Berkeley Medical Center opened in September of 2014 and has served over 700 babies born prematurely, with low birth weight or recovering from serious conditions.

With support from the GFWC Woman’s Club of Martinsburg, Berkeley Medical Center welcomed over 160 NICU graduates and family members for a superhero themed celebration. Families enjoyed games and activities sponsored by the Woman’s Club, a photo booth courtesy of 3MI Photography and special visitors from Wonderment Puppet Theater and Martinsburg High School’s Good Times Show Choir. Over a dozen local businesses including Macy’s Logistics and Tri-County Rentals donated door prizes and other items to show their support.

“It has been such a great experience to host this event and see so many familiar faces from the past five years,” Sara Franklin, registered nurse at Berkeley Medical Center said. “As NICU nurses, we help families during what can be an extremely difficult and overwhelming time. Seeing our little heroes return healthy and thriving has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.”
