WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center introduces monthly diabetes wellness support group

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – The Diabetes and Nutrition Education Department of WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center has introduced a monthly wellness group aimed at offering support, camaraderie, and wellness advice to community members living with diabetes.

These free, monthly education sessions allow people affected by diabetes to join together to learn more about the disease and the actions they can take to control their health. Community members caring for a loved one with diabetes are also encouraged to attend.

“We launched the Diabetes Wellness Group in January to address a need we witnessed in our community,” Jennifer W. Miller, registered dietitian at Berkeley Medical Center, said. “Our hope is to create a community of support for people living with diabetes. We are excited to show them that with the right combination of education, support, and wellness, they can take steps towards improving their health.”

The Diabetes Wellness Group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 1 – 2 p.m. at 1004 Tavern Road in Martinsburg. The topic of the June 11 session will be Supplements: What Do You Need? For more information, contact the Diabetes and Nutrition Education Department at 304-596-6839.
