WVU Medicine breaks ground for Fairmont clinic
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Medicine officially broke ground June 6 for a new clinic to be built in Marion County, off Downtown Fairmont Exit 136 of I-79, on the Fairmont Gateway Connector.
The $13.9 million, 25,000-square-foot outpatient center will be owned and operated by University Health Associates (UHA) and will include 39 exam rooms and three procedure rooms. It will house the following services:
- Primary care, including obstetrics/gynecology services
- Urgent care
- Orthopaedics (hand and joint)
- Nephrology
- Gastroenterology
- General surgery
- Vascular surgery
“The mission of WVU Medicine is to provide the right care to the right patient at the right time and place. To do that, we regularly perform community needs assessments, and we noted that Marion County had too few health providers to cover certain patient needs,” Judie Charlton, M.D., UHA chief medical officer, said.
Currently, WVU Medicine providers practice at the Fairmont East Clinic, Marion Medical Associates, and at a cardiology practice within Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
“This clinic will expand that footprint for the residents of Marion County and provide better access and more healthcare options for primary, specialty, and urgent care,” Dr. Charlton said. “This isn’t just a building – it’s a progressive, forward-thinking enterprise. We wanted to create a facility that will be flexible enough to adapt to future healthcare needs and challenges as they arise. And, the make-up of this outpatient clinic will be flexible – we are prepared to staff it with different types of providers who will change as the needs of the community change.”
The building is scheduled to open in summer 2017.
