WVU Medicine East names chief financial officer

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – WVU Medicine East President and CEO Anthony P. Zelenka recently announced the appointment of Grover “Zach” Kerns as vice president of finance for Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center.

Kerns has been employed at WVU Medicine East as the system’s controller since May 2018, bringing over 16 years of healthcare finance experience to the position. He came to the Eastern Panhandle from Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where he served as the chief financial officer for Pleasant Valley Hospital.

Prior to that time, Kerns served as the controller for Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown and as an audit manager for Dixon Hughes, PLLC, specializing in healthcare accounting and auditing.

“We are pleased to welcome Zach to our executive leadership team at WVU Medicine East,” Zelenka stated. “He is a skilled finance executive with a broad array of healthcare management and leadership experience to bring to the group.”

Kerns holds a B.A. in Public Accounting from Marietta College in Ohio and a Masters in Health Administration from Ohio University in Athens. He is a certified public accountant, certified management accountant and a certified healthcare finance professional.
