WVU Medicine Health Report - EOS imaging system

A new x-ray system called EOS uses significantly lower radiation for an even better image. This is especially beneficial to young persons undergoing diagnosis for scoliosis. Patients stand or sit inside the EOS imaging system while it takes spine x-rays in two planes – looking from the back to front, and from the side simultaneously. With EOS, WVU Medicine physicians are able to get all of the high-quality 3D images they need without adult and pediatric patients having to undergo a CT scan.

The benefits of EOS imaging include:

• • Nine times less radiation than a conventional x-ray
• • 20 times less radiation than a CT scan
• • Full body x-rays in 20 seconds or less
• • More than 100 angles and length measurements of the spine and lower limbs
