WVU Medicine Jefferson Medical Center hosting annual community baby shower

RANSON, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Jefferson Medical Center will host its Sixth Annual Community Baby Shower and Diaper drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 2, in the first floor conference room. Mothers and fathers-to-be as well as new moms and dads are invited to celebrate new life and parenthood by attending this free educational event.

“The purpose of the Community Baby Shower is to help expectant and new families learn about topics that are important to the health and well-being of new babies,” Kellie Minney, nurse director of obstetrics, said.

According to Minney, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with Jefferson Medical Center professionals and community representatives to get answers to questions regarding all aspects of pregnancy to birth, to baby, and beyond.

Information will be provided along with door prizes and refreshments. Community vendors will also be on site with information and giveaways. Vendors include Jefferson Medical Center ultrasound; Birthright of Jefferson County; Black Dog Coffee Company; Tupperware; Pampered Chef; Thirty One; Berkeley Medical Center mother/baby unit; Two Rivers Childbirth; Lactation Consultant Amy Blue, IBCLC; Second Impressions Boutique; and Shenandoah Valley WIC.

Expecting moms will have the opportunity to tour the OB unit at Jefferson Medical Center and to have an ultrasound picture taken of their babies, courtesy of the hospital’s radiology department.

New to this year’s baby shower is a diaper drive. Vendors, attendees, and staff are being asked to donate diapers for the event. The Jefferson Medical Center OB department hopes to fill an empty crib with diapers to then donate to Birthright of Jefferson County.
