WVU Medicine to host compassion fatigue workshops

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center and the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health will be hosting free workshops on compassion fatigue Feb. 4 and 5 in Martinsburg.

This 90 minute workshop, titled The Stress of Caring Too Much, is open to the public and ideal for health providers, first responders, law enforcement, recovery volunteers, advocates and caregivers. Attendees will learn about compassion fatigue, how to combat it and the importance of self-care.

Elizabeth Coffey, harm reduction program coordinator for the WV Bureau for Public Health, will be the presenter. The workshop is being offered several times over a two-day period to accommodate as many attendees as possible.

The workshops will be held at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center on Feb. 4 and in Berkeley Medical Center’s eighth floor classroom on Feb. 5.
