On Oct. 6, the WVU Medicine Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center honored three patients during the Seventh Annual Night of Recognition. This year's patient honorees were:
- Luke Mertz of Kitzmiller, Md., who was injured in a dirt bike accident;
- Bill Ross of Waynesburg, Pa., who was injured in a motorcycle accident; and
- Randy Ash of Sistersville, who was injured in a hunting accident.
The WVU Medicine Marketing and Communications Department produced three videos that tell the patients' stories.
While riding on a country road near his Pennsylvania home, Bill Ross was suddenly thrown from his motorcycle. The accident left him with broken ribs, internal injuries, a lacerated lung, and a traumatic brain injury. After the work of the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center team saved his life, he is nearly completely recovered a year later.
