WVU Medicine welcomes physical medicine, rehab specialist

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center announces the opening of the Interventional Spine Care Center in Martinsburg and the addition of Shoji Ishigami, M.D., Ph.D., to the Medical Center staff.

Dr. Ishigami, a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist, received his medical degree from the St. George’s University School of Medicine and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from George Washington University. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at North Shore University Hospital, Hofstra University School of Medicine.  

Ishigami completed a fellowship in interventional spine care at Virginia iSpine Physicians and, prior to joining WVU Medicine, worked as an attending physician at GW Medical Faculty Associates.  

The Interventional Spine Care-Procedure Based Management program, a part of WVU Medicine Brain and Spine, is dedicated to the safe and accurate performance of spine injection procedures to ease acute pain and ensure patient comfort.

“We use an evidence-based approach to diagnose and treat painful spine disorders,” Ishigami said.

Some of the conditions treated include degenerated/bulging/ herniated discs, stenosis, whiplash, osteoporosis, spinal and pelvic fractures, and facet joint/hip joint arthritis.
