WVU’s Li receives Orthopaedic Research Society award

Will visit Harvard-MIT for collaborative exchange

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – On the heels of receiving the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association-Pfizer Best Scientific Paper Award, Bingyun Li, Ph.D., associate professor in the West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedics and director of the WVU Biomaterials, Bioengineering, and Nanotechnology Laboratory, has been awarded a Collaborative Exchange Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS).

The ORS established the award in 2010 to provide investigators at any stage of their career an opportunity to visit a research lab for the purpose of collaboration and knowledge exchange. The award can be used towards travel, accommodation, and living costs for investigators to visit research institutions to foster collaboration in orthopaedic-related research areas and to facilitate the exchange of new research methodologies and techniques. It is given to two applicants from the orthopaedic research community worldwide each year.

Dr. Li will make several trips to the lab of Ali Khademhosseini, Ph.D., an associate professor at Harvard-MIT’s Division of Health Sciences and Technology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Khademhosseini’s research has been recognized by more than 30 major national and international awards within the last seven years, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.  Khademhosseini is also a standing member (2013-2017) of the Bioengineering, Technology, and Surgical Sciences study section of the National Institutes of Health and an associate editor for the American Chemical Society journal “Nano.”

The 2013/2014 Collaborative Exchange Award winners will be announced during the 2014 ORS Awards Session during the Annual Meeting of the ORS, which will be held March 17, 2014, in New Orleans.
