WVU School of Medicine names Dr. Robert Johnstone chair of Anesthesiology

Robert Johnstone, M.D., has been appointed chair of the WVU School of Medicine’s Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Johnstone has been serving as interim chair since July 1.

Johnstone received his medical degree from the Ohio State University and completed residency training and a fellowship in anesthesia at the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology and joined the faculty at WVU in 1991.

Johnstone succeeds former chair, Manual Vallejo, M.D., who recently assumed the duties of the School’s designated institutional official (DIO), assistant dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME), and vice chair for faculty development and institutional affairs.
