WVU School of Nursing and WVU Medicine to celebrate National Nurses Week

Nearly four million nurses around the country provide extraordinary care to patients every day. In honor of these men and women, the WVU School of Nursing and WVU Medicine will celebrate National Nurses Week by hosting a Nurses Week Carnival at the Erickson Alumni Center on Wednesday, May 11, 2106, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The carnival, which is free and open to the public, will include prizes, games, food and special appearances by the Mountaineer; Cooper, the Black Bears mascot; and WVU Medicine’s Monti Bear. Attendees can also enjoy free chair massages, grab a picture with a colleague at the photo booth, and purchase items from nearly 20 local vendors. WVU Medicine chaplains will also provide the Blessing of the Hands - a unique tradition often affiliated with Nurses Week.

“We are so fortunate to have a dedicated, caring community of nurses – many who choose to stay here in West Virginia to work and practice. “These women and men go above and beyond to provide the best possible care to patients each and every day, and this event is a great way to recognize their hard work, while providing them with a fun atmosphere to relax,” said Tara Hulsey, dean of the WVU School of Nursing.

National Nurses Week (May 6-12) is held each year to celebrate and promote the nursing profession and the important roles nurses play in healthcare. This is the second year that WVU Medicine and the WVU School of Nursing have teamed up to host the carnival. Last year more than 250 people participated in the activities.
