WVU School of Pharmacy hosting bone marrow drive
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University School of Pharmacy’s student chapter of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) is encouraging everyone in the community to get the inside of their mouths swabbed and become part of the search for patients who need a matching bone marrow donor.
In celebration of November’s National Bone Marrow Awareness Month, the NCPA WVU chapter is hosting an educational event to register potential donors for a bone marrow drive. The education session will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 in the Fukushima Auditorium at the WVU Health Sciences Center.
Aaron Cumpston, Pharm.D., Bone Marrow Transplant/Hematological Malignancy clinical pharmacist at WVU Healthcare, will discuss the importance and commitment of becoming a bone marrow donor. At the end of the presentation, those who wish to become donors may register for the bone marrow donor drive.
The bone marrow donor drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 at the Westover Rite Aid on Fairmont Road. The event is free of charge and donors will have the inside of their mouths swabbed at that time. Potential donors are strongly encouraged to attend the information session on Nov. 1 prior to attending the Nov. 18 donor registration event.
Those whose swabs match will be contacted about bone marrow donation.
