Influence of Particulate Matter on Fetal Mitochondrial Programming
Nanotechnology has provided important advancements in the area of engineering innovation, however, introduction of engineered nanomaterials in these technologies is not without hazard, and the negative effects on human health, at present, can only be speculated without detailed evaluation of their toxic nature.
The proposed experiments are relevant to public health because they will enhance our understanding of the pathogenesis of engineered nanomaterial exposure and aid in the development of biomarkers and prophylactic interventions designed to lessen complications that are associated with engineered nanomaterial exposure. Thus, the proposed research is relevant to the NIH's mission that pertains to the pursuit of fundamental knowledge to extend healthy life and reduce the burden of illness.
