Title: Optimizing Bioenergy Production: Trees, Soils, and Soil Microbes for Minelands in WV

Speaker: Dr. Jonathan Cumming, Professor, Department of Biology

Abstract: The production of bioenergy feedstocks – plants that produce biomass than can be converted to resources for energy – is an essential component of the country’s energy portfolio for the future. Critical to the success of biofuels will be the utilization of marginal and non-productive soils for feedstock production. This Science on Tap session will investigate various aspects of biofuel feedstock production focusing on fast-growing woody tree species and minelands in West Virginia.
