Special Neuroscience Seminar: Dr. Sonny Singh
May 16, 2018 from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM
“Pgrmc1 as a critical mediator of progesterone-induced neuroprotection: Implications for brain aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and stroke”
Meharvan “Sonny” Singh, PhD
Professor of Pharmacology and NeuroscienceDirector, Center for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Disease Research
Interim Director, Institute of Healthy Aging
University of Texas Health Science Center
Host: Dr. James Simpkins
When: Wednesday, May 16 at 12:30 PM
Where: 301 BMRC
Abstract: Dr. Singh will discuss the role of Pgrmc1 as a critical mediator of progesterone-induced BDNF release, progesterone-induced protection of the brain, and a key determinant of the brain’s response to progesterone. In addition, Dr. Singh will address the role of a member of the Let-7 family of microRNA as a regulator of Pgrmc1 expression, and provide data to suggest this microRNA as a relevant therapeutic target for the treatment of ischemic stroke.
