The first event was held in 1965 to highlight research of medical students in the School of Medicine with William A. Neal the first winner. He would later become a Professor and Physician in Pediatric Cardiology and become the founder and director of the Coronary Artery Risk Detection.

Each year, we look forward to the Van Liere Research Conference. This event gives the HSC scientific community the opportunity to share the highlights of their research across diverse disciplines, departments and Schools.  We are excited to announce that the Office of Research and Graduate Education will once again host this event August 9th-12th, 2021, with specific details to follow.  The design of the conference will be aligned with public health guidelines that are in place Summer 2021 to result in a safe and exciting conference.  More details will be coming soon with abstract submissions open in early summer.  We look forward to your participation in this annual celebration of HSC research and it’s exciting impact.
