What is the time frame for the degree?

The M.S. in Health Sciences is a 12-month degree spanning 3 consecutive semesters, including the entire summer. If a student is accepted for summer, May admission, their first semester would be in the summer and they could complete the program the following May. If a student is admitted for Fall, August admission, they could graduate the following August.

What are the requirements to get a WVU SOM interview?

Master of Health Sciences (MHS) to Medical School Interview (MSI) Program guarantees an interview for select MHS students to the WVU School of Medicine if they have met the following requirements.

 

**Must submit MSI application at the start of the MHS program

 

If selected MHS students must meet the following requirements for a guaranteed interview:

  1. Have a minimum Graduate BCPM of 3.5 with a minimum of 15 hours as calculated by AMCAS
  2. Post a minimum total MCAT score of 506, with no sub-section score below 125
  3. Have a minimum of 10 mission-based experiences in Patient Care, Education/leadership, Research, and Community Service
  4. Meet all admissions requirements as outlined on the Office of Admissions website

 

MSI Application Questions:

  1. Why do you want to apply to the WVU School of Medicine?
  2. Those hoping to get a guaranteed interview through the MSI Program must have participated in mission-based experiences such as Patient Care, Education/Leadership, Research, and Service. What experiences do you plan to participate in?
  3. Please explain any past academic or professional deficits you hope to improve through obtaining a  Master of Health Sciences.
  4. What is your planned medical school application cycle? 2026, 2027 etc.

 

Steps for the Program:

  1. Application opens in prospect for the MSI Program before they start MHS.
  2. After students apply for the MSI Program, the Director of the MHS Program and the Director of Outreach and Recruitment will review the submitted applications  and select students for the program
  3. After selected, students will be required to sign an agreement that outlines what is required for the guaranteed interview
  4. The Director of the MHS Program will be responsible for advising and mentoring selected students
  5. Those applicants who meet the outlined requirements will be guaranteed an interview in their designated application cycle.
  6. Applicants have the option to reapply one more time should they not be successful in their first attempt. A post-application meeting is required for this option.
