Summer Program for Undergraduate Research in Biomedical Sciences

The West Virginia University Summer Program for Undergraduate Research in Biomedical Sciences is investing in you!

This intensive summer research program provides the opportunity to actively engage in biomedical research and provide a comprehensive mentoring experience. Students with an interest in a career in biomedical sciences or as a physician-scientist are encouraged to apply. This program focuses on a desire to build diversity in the biomedical sciences. 

Through this program, students have the opportunity to conduct an 8-week research project in the following areas:

  • Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine
  • Cancer Cell Biology
  • Cellular and Integrative Physiology
  • Clinical and Translational Science
  • Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis
  • Neuroscience
  • Pathophysiology, Rehabilitation and Performance
  • Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences

Specialization in an MD/PhD Physician Scientist Pathway is also available.

The program includes:

Program Duration: May 30 – July 25, 2024

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Academic record, particularly in science courses
  • Rising junior or senior or graduated senior from this academic year
  • Stated interest in biomedical research and a career in biomedical sciences or as a physician scientist 
  • Recommendations from 2 faculty members
