Third-year student presents at national conference
Bailey Hollihan is a third-year dental student at West Virginia University School of Dentistry.
She is from Pittsburgh, PA and will graduate in 2021. She shared her experience presenting research at the Academy of General Dentistry's 2019 Premier Meeting for General Dentistry.
Throughout the past year I have been working closely with Dr. Edward Rossomando, President of the CRET Center and Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Dental Hypotheses, to bring light to the topic of oral health literacy, a subject I have been passionate about since my undergraduate years at the University of Dayton.
My work consisted of a systematic literature review following PRISMA guidelines as well as the writing of a manuscript for the journal Dental Hypotheses.
During July 2019, I was honored to be selected to present my research at the Academy of General Dentistry’s 2019 Premier Meeting for General Dentistry. The conference took place July 17th-20th at Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, Connecticut.
As a student attendee, I was invited to participate in various Continuing Education (CE) courses covering topics such as Dental Anesthesiology, Botox and Dermal Fillers, proper dentist-patient positioning, forensic dentistry, and more.
For my presentation, I constructed a research poster and was given ten minutes to deliver a speech before several judges. The conference, overall, was an incredible experience. I had an amazing time and made a lot of new connections.
AGD gave me the perfect platform to share my research and discuss my ideas with intelligent, resourceful individuals in the field of dentistry.
