Tissue Bank & Brain Bank

The Tissue Bank and Brain Bank , located within the Department of Pathology, Anatomy & Laboratory Medicine on the 2nd floor of the Health Sciences Center, collect and store a wide variety of normal and diseased tissue, including tissue obtained from patients with malignancies. The banks are fully approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Pathology faculty and staff work with clinical and basic scientists to meet their specific research needs.

The Brain Bank collects and stores brain and spinal cord tissue obtained at the time of autopsy. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), peripheral nerves and muscles may also be collected depending on the research needs. The Brain Bank is building a diverse biorepository of neural tissue that focuses on diseases of particular interest to WVU neuroscientists, including neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
