General Psychiatry Residency

School, Department, or Center

School of Medicine, Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry

Jim Berry, DO Carl Sullivan, MD

As is required by the ACGME, our residents have designated training months learning and practicing Addiction Psychiatry in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Program, C&L, emergency department and the COAT clinic. There are two months for addiction specific training in the PGYII year and one month as a senior in the PGYIV year. However, it is recognized that addiction training is woven throughout all of our services. Lectures Our PGYI and PGYII residents attend a series of 14 addiction lectures specific to their year of training. In 2015 a series of 8 lectures on addiction psychiatry was initiated for the PGYIV’s. Junior Psych residents on their addiction rotation are expected to present one lecture at our bi-weekly Substance Abuse Seminar. It is strongly encouraged that all residents get their DEA waiver to prescribe buprenorphine.
