BS Exercise Science, Liberty University

Aaron Saunders is a recent graduate of the Physical Therapy program at West Virginia University; he earned his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Liberty University in 2018 where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Growing up, Aaron was raised in two distinct Appalachian communities: his elementary school years were spent in Harlan, Kentucky, and he attended junior and senior high school in Princeton, West Virginia. Through spending his formative years in these areas, Aaron learned to appreciate the deep love and commitment that Appalachian families have for each other and their communities, and the Appalachian culture has impacted him tremendously with respect to how he hopes to treat patients.  Moreover, Aaron was deeply influenced by his father who works in healthcare administration, as it was through this lens that he began to understand the importance of, and need for, a strong health care network for rural America.

Additionally, community service is also important to Aaron. He likes to use his passion for exercise and activity to help others, whether it be organizing benefit 5ks, assisting with community health fairs, advocating for Physical Therapy’s key role in health care, or volunteering for various service roles at church.

Aaron used his time as a Rural Community Health Scholar to expand his clinical skills while learning what is needed to serve and lead rural communities to gaining access to support systems that influence overall health.
