Alyssa Wallace

Alyssa Wallace, Pharm.D Candidate

Hometown:
Wheeling, WV

Throughout her Pharm.D program, Alyssa has participated in numerous health fairs in rural areas of Monongalia, Wetzel, and Raleigh Counties, where she had the opportunity to do blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, as well as educate community members on the importance of taking medications as prescribed.

Wallace has also held several leadership roles in her tenure in the Pharm.D program, including holding office as President of the National Community Pharmacists Association WVU Chapter and helping to lead the Script Your Future Campaign - a nationwide competition among different health sciences colleges and universities to educate others on medication adherence and promoting health. Most recently, she has completed inpatient and outpatient family medicine rotations, where she worked with individuals with respect to disease management.

From these experiences, she has developed a passion for working with individuals from rural and medically underserved communities, and she particularly enjoys disease education for these populations, as well as helping them manage their medications. Through her experiences, she has found that many individuals struggle to manage multiple conditions, and often do not understand what all of their medications are for.  Accordingly, being able to share her knowledge has been a rewarding way to help her community as they journey on their path to healthier lives.

Because of her experiences in her Pharm.D program and with WV AHEC, she wants to pursue a PGY1 pharmacy residency after graduation; this will allow her to continue working with chronic disease management to better serve her fellow West Virginians.
