Kacy Harmon is currently a fourth-year student at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM). She grew up in Parkersburg, WV and remained in-state for college at West Virginia University Institute of Technology where she graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biology in 2018.

During her time as an undergraduate, Harmon participated in the Green Coat Program at CAMC in Charleston, WV where her love for medicine and passion for serving the underserved patient populations in WV began. She is a member of the Rural Health Initiative at WVSOM and enjoys learning about how occupation and socioeconomic factors effect an individual’s wellbeing and how their healthcare providers can adjust their practices to suit the needs of their patients and overcome barriers to care. During her time at WVSOM she has also served as president of the women’s health/ob-gyn club, worked with pre-med students as a student admissions ambassador, and was involved in various programs with WVSOM’s Center for Rural and Community Health. In 2019, she was awarded the WV Rural Physician Scholarship for commitment to future practice of primary care medicine in West Virginia.

Kacy is grateful to have become a WV AHEC Rural Community Health Scholar and for the experiences this program provides. She will graduate medical school in May 2022 and hopes to enter an internal medicine residency. Kacy has a love for the people of her home state and plans to practice in either hospital medicine or primary care in WV upon completion of her training. She looks forward to translating the knowledge gained from her rural health experiences into her practice to best serve her future patients.
