Michaela Taylor, DO
Micheala Taylor graduated from high school with twenty-two other graduates from Ipswich, a small town in South Dakota. She stayed in her hometown to continue her college education. She obtained her bachelor’s of science degree in biology and two associate degrees, in chemistry and medical assisting, from Presentation College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. While attending Presentation College, which is located within the home to the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, she realized healthcare was part of her calling and purpose within the community. With this goal in mind, she relocated to Lewisburg, West Virginia in 2016 to attend medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Micheala first gained a drive for rural family medicine upon starting her clinical rotations in a family practice office in Ronceverte, WV. Since then, she has participated in a publication on the opioid epidemic as it relates to infectious disease in West Virginia. She has also begun a position as a graduate teaching assistant in the Osteopathic Practice & Principles department at WVSOM.
As a Medical School graduate, Micheala plans on entering a family medicine residency program. She hopes that her involvement in the AHEC Rural Community Health Scholars program will give her additional preparation and insight to one-day practice as a rural healthcare provider, either in a private or group practice.
