The West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) and the Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute (Indiana CTSI) announce the availability of pilot project funding for clinical and translational research. Awards will be for collaborative efforts between faculty at WVCTSI institutions (WVU, CAMC / WVU-C, and WVSOM) and Indiana CTSI institutions (Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame).

The Office of Research and Graduate Education is soliciting pre-proposals from groups interested in submitting a full application for the 2013 deadline. Pre-proposals are limited to three pages, and should include the proposed director, general theme of the CoBRE and its cores and projects, names/departments of potential mentored scientists, names/departments of faculty who could serve as mentors, and investments or improvements that would be needed to ensure a competitive application. Include NIH biosketches for all faculty who will be involved.

The Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (MBRCC) and Office of Research and Graduate Education announce the availability of American Cancer Society (ACS), supported Pilot Project Grants (PPG). Applicants should be within six years of their first independent research or faculty appointment, citizens or noncitizen nationals of the United States, or must have been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence at the time of application and may include faculty from the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy or other WVU Schools and Colleges. Support of senior investigators is not permitted.

The Office of Research and Graduate Education announces the availability of funds to support RFDGs for projects up to one year in duration, which are directed by faculty at the rank of Instructor or above, in the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health.

The WVU Research Corporation offers the PSCoR (Program to Stimulate Competitive Research). The primary intent for these funds is to increase faculty competitiveness in obtaining extramural research support, i.e., to support efforts that lead to proposal submission and external funding that will ultimately advance the WVU research enterprise.

The total annual allocation is $750,000.

WVU Grants for Public Service are designed to stimulate and support public service projects conducted by members of the Faculty Assembly and other full-time regular employees, and to encourage development of additional support for these projects from other sources. WVU Grants for Public Service may support activities of a primary applicant, or they may support projects which involve other faculty, staff, and students (students must be under the supervision of a faculty member). The committee also recognizes that certain projects require one or more assistants in order to fulfill important objectives. Projects involving other agencies or organizations should contain an explanation of the relationship between that organization and the applicant.

The Faculty Development Grant Program supports activities that lead to professional growth in teaching, research and service for extension agents and for faculty on the Morgantown and Charleston campuses. Examples include:

• Participation in workshops, classes and seminars
• The organization of lectures, symposia and conferences for West Virginia University faculty
• Special projects or opportunities that lead to professional development
• Travel to libraries to conduct research

The West Virginia University Foundation is the primary source of funds for the Faculty Development Grant Program.
