The Wright Stuff: Teamwork at its best

A message to the WVU Medicine-Ruby Memorial Hospital Family

The week of March 20 started out like any other week until it turned into one of the greatest challenges we’ve ever dealt with. We were tested and, ultimately, successful in dealing with a malware event that affected many of our clinical applications and PCs.

Everyone throughout the organization worked tirelessly with Information Technology (IT) to manage the situation and ensure patient care was maintained. Thank you!

Sure, there are still some outstanding malware-related issues, but the teamwork that was displayed during the event was not only impressive, it was reflective of this organization and the type of people who work here.

I’ve often said that it doesn’t matter if you work directly with patients or support operations, the work you do matters. That was never more evident than it was that week. With the hospital full (record census), everyone stepped up, did what they had to do, and dealt with the challenges head on.

I can’t say enough about the IT employees who rose to the occasion. What an impressive bunch. IT professionals from throughout the system came together, worked together and solved problems together. And the clinical and administrative leaders who ran the Incident Command Center (pictured right) didn’t miss a beat.

While the malware event isn’t one I hope we repeat anytime soon, it did showcase the incredible people who work here. I salute each of you for the immeasurable impact you have on the men, women and children we serve from throughout the state and region. You make a real difference – every day.
