Experimental Stroke Core

Overview

The Experimental Stroke Core provides surgical expertise, equipment and instrumentation for carrying out stroke and traumatic brain injury research. Current available animal models include photothrombotic stroke, transient and permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion, cerebral hypoperfusion, hypoxia, epidural drug application, stereotaxic application of endothelin-1, cardiac arrest/ cardiopulmonary resuscitation global ischemia, carotid ligation, and traumatic brain injury. The Core also develops new cerebral ischemia animal models as requested by investigators.

  • Leica surgical microscope (M80)
  • Animal tattooing system
  • Laser speckle imager
  • Hypoxia ischemia chamber
  • Laser doppler flow (MoorVMS-LDF2)
  • Blood gas analyzer
  • Electro-cautery with bipolar forceps
  • Temperature control system
  • Small animal stereotaxic instrument
  • Cold light sources (KL 2500 and KL 1600)
