WVU Medicine Children’s Gala raises $1.65M for West Virginia’s children and families
The 21st annual WVU Medicine Children’s Gala raised more than $1.65 million to continue to provide world-class care to West Virginia and the surrounding region.
WVU Cancer Institute Summer Undergraduate Research Program now accepting applications
The West Virginia University Cancer Institute offers an undergraduate research internship every summer in basic and clinical cancer research. The highly competitive program provides funding and full-time research opportunities for five students who want to pursue careers in cancer research. Each student receives a $5,000 stipend to cover living expenses and accommodation in Morgantown, WV. Students are responsible for securing their own housing. An additional $1,000 is provided for research supplies to the host lab. The student is paired with an Institute scientist for a ~9-week research project. In 2025, the program will start on Monday, May 19th, and end on Friday, August 1st. Various projects provide a research experience focused on molecular, biochemical, and/or cellular approaches toward understanding the mechanism of cancer, developing anticancer drugs, and nanotechnology applications to cancer research. The participating labs focus on breast, lung, pancreatic, and head and neck cancers, as well as hematological malignancies such as leukemia or lymphoma. Lei appointed to American Association for Cancer Research science policy and government affairs committee
Dr. Ming Lei, a leading expert in biomedical research and policy, has been invited to serve as a member of the science policy and government affairs committee for the American Association for Cancer Research. The appointment, announced by AACR president-elect Dr. Lillian L. Siu, begins immediately and extends through April 2028.
Dentistry faculty member co-authors mental health research
Dr. R. Constance Wiener, a faculty member in the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, recently co-authored two publications focused on mental health.
Dr. Liu awarded RO1 grant to study hearing loss
The Liu Lab has been awarded an R01 grant from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders to investigate the molecular mechanisms of hearing and deafness. The five-year award, totaling $2,182,205 is titled, “Significance of Usher Protein Dynamics in Hair Cell Function and Deafness.”
