Shakira Bowman is currently a fifth-year student enrolled in the Doctor of Clinical Psychology Program (Psy.D) at Marshall University. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with minors in Criminal Justice and Spanish, from Marshall University in 2017. She further received her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, from Marshall University in 2020. 

Recently, Shakira completed her doctoral practicum requirements with Cabin Creek Health Systems where she mainly provided psychotherapy services to middle and high school students living in rural areas. Additionally, she served as a Teaching Assistant to the Marshall University Psychology Department. Shakira is now completing her APA accredited doctoral internship at Applewood Centers Inc, in Cleveland Ohio.  

She was raised in Rand, West Virginia where she witnessed many of the barriers and stigma that individuals faced regarding receiving mental health services. She is passionate about advocating for the mental health needs of at-risk adolescents and marginalized populations. 

Shakira is positioned to graduate in 2023 and wishes to work in a juvenile treatment facility as a Clinical Psychologist.
